The Big Red Book of American Lutherie Series

The Big Red Books of American Lutherie have become standard reference volumes in the lutherie community since we began the series in the year 2000. Four of the volumes have sold out. Some of the contents of these out-of-print volumes are available to members via the Articles Online feature of our website, or in our American Lutherie Anthology series. Get the remaining Big Red Book volumes while they last, since they will not be reprinted.

For tons more invaluable lutherie content that we’ve published since 2005 , see our American Lutherie back issues, American Lutherie Anthology Books, and our Articles Online.

The Big Red Books of American Lutherie are compilations of our respected journal American Lutherie. Each volume of over 500 pages, contains the contents of three years (twelve issues) of American Lutherie, and features articles on a wide variety of topics related to the art, science, and history of lutherie. (See a pdf of contents for each volume.) All volumes in the Big Red Book series share the same quality sewn binding in gold-stamped hard covers, plus topic and author indexes. These books are built to last and built to be used; they will lie open on a workbench.
